Journey on the River Alph

Journey on the River Alph is a collection of Poetry by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.  His poem "Kubla Khan" was the inspiration behind the Realm of Xanadu cyber-novel.

During the year 1797 a remarkable friendship formed between two talented poets. In the period of only a year, William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge created the heart of what would later be known as British Romanticism. For Coleridge this would be the apex of his creative thought. His poetry written during this period would solidify himself as one of the great English poets of his time. His friend Wordsworth would go on to become the embodiment of the poetry of that era. The Opium induced hallucinations Coleridge experienced gave him an unusual insight that allowed him to create some of the most imaginative and visual places ever conceived. The visceral quality of his poetry allowed the reader to see these fantastic places like none other. The price paid for this talent was the addiction to the same Opium that gave him the visions.
