Lexicon of Xanadu    

Agaparthea - Ancient city uncovered in the southeastern region of Iraq in 1956. Believed to be over 5,000 years old, few artifacts and remains were uncovered before its destruction in an Iraqi civil war. Although some strange archeological anomalies were found, little remains to verify the true nature of this enigmatic city.

Alph, the river - Beautiful river that is sacred to the peoples of Xanadu. Beginning in the primordial mountains of the northeast, the great river winds its way through the valley before disappearing into the bottomless depths of the caverns of Mount Abora.  It is considered the source of life for the entire valley.

Archonic Council - Originally founded by the First Archons, this council advises/supplements the leader of Xanadu.  Each leader of Xanadu is chosen from this council by the community.

BCE - Stands for Before Common Era.  Modern term used for the time period before the birth of Christ (BC.)

CE - Stands for Common Era.  Modern term used for the time period after the birth of Christ (AD.)

Codex of Presage - Originally uncovered along with the wanderers journals, this book is the directly transcribed religious teachings found on the Obelisk of Yyadrian.  Written in a complex and arcane language, a full translation of all the sections has yet to be accomplished.

Chaosynth, Realm of the - The astral realm where the power of the Chaosynth exists. It is believed that within the Primordial Mountains there is a place where the barrier between this astral place and our reality is weakest.  Through the use of certain rituals and hallucinogens it is possible to cross this barrier.

Chaosynth, The - Sentient essence of all chaos and creation within the universe. Commonly symbolized as a constantly mutating crystal emitting brilliant colors.

Corruption, The - See Xenophage.

Data Crystals - Found among the ruins of Agaparthea, It is believed to store information from a technologically advanced spaceship that crash landed on earth around 3000 BCE.

First Archons, The - The twelve founders of the city of Xanadu. They bestowed upon the citizens of Xanadu many gifts, the greatest of all being the Manifest Legacies found on the Obelisk of Yyadrian.

Gaea - Physical manifestation of what the people of Xanadu believe to be the "Mother Earth" or "Mother Nature". This is similar to Greek mythology where Gaea (also known as Gaia or Ge) is the name for the Goddess of the Earth.

Gaeonda - One of the First Archons and a good friend to Lylanth before her corruption to evil.

Geasea - The code of obligation followed by all citizens of Xanadu to preserve the knowledge of the Manifest Legacy.

Harappa Civilization, The - See Indus Civilization, The.

Indraya - One of the First Archons, she eventually left Xanadu and influenced the evolution of the Indus Civilization that existed in what is now modern day Pakistan.

Indus Civilization, The - Located in South Asia, the ancient Indus Civilization existed from 2900 to around 1500 BCE.  Well known for its technologically advanced and uniform architecture, much of the history of the Indus remains a mystery because the script language of its people cannot be translated.  Recent discoveries have tied its origins to that of the mysterious city of Xanadu.

Indus River, The - One of South Asia's longest rivers, the Indus river flows from its source in Tibet through northern India and then winds its way through Pakistan.

Infinite Spider, The - See Stratagoth, The

Infinite Spiders, the Gateway of - Believed to be the path from heaven that the First Archons journeyed through before reaching the realm of Gaea and creating Xanadu.

Lylanth - One of the First Archons who disappeared into the Caverns of Mount Abora.  Horribly twisted by the Nullstrom, it is believed she became the basis for the Sumerian and Hebrew myth of 'Lilith'

Macroclysmic War, The - A great cataclysmic conflict destined to occur sometime in the future. It is believed to result in the destruction of the universe. Similar in theory to the Christian "Armageddon" or the Viking "Ragnarok."

Manifest Legacy - The "tales" or "prophecies" found on the Obelisk of Yyadrian. These fables not only describe the mythology and belief system of the peoples of Xanadu, they also portend many of the momentous events that are yet to come. Much like the Bible is separated into "books" (i.e. Book of Genesis), the Obelisk is separated into "Manifest Legacies."

Milk of Paradise - A hallucinogenic liquid used by the people of Xanadu during important ceremonies. Although some of the ingredients are known, the location of such herbs and the process to which it is prepared remains a mystery.

Mount Abora - A large mountain range at the edge of the sacred valley, the people of Xanadu believe it to be the gateway to the dismal realm of the Nullstrom. It is rumored that the dark caverns found here hold the most demented minions of the vile worm.

Nullstrom, The - Sentient essence of all destruction and balance within the universe. The Nullstrom is commonly symbolized as a wingless dragon or a worm-like serpent with many tentacles.

Obelisk of Yyadrian - Considered to be the "Bible" of the peoples of Xanadu, this artifact contains the Manifest Legacies bequeathed by the First Archons.

Pleasure Dome - A large, spherical dome that covers the city of Xanadu.  Made from an unknown material, the dome protects the citizens of Xanadu from many natural and unnatural dangers.

Quantum Singularity - What is commonly known as a Black Hole. Its existence was first theorized by the French mathematician Pierre Simon de Laplace in 1798. As of the late twentieth century, the existence of quantum singularities are theoretical, albeit probable.

Sacred Valley, The - The secret valley in which lies the city of Xanadu and the river Alph.

Salvation of the Crystal Nova - The momentous and anticipated destruction of the corrupter, Xenophage as well as the subsequent restoration of the order within the Tripartium.

Sepulchre of the Archons - Sacred burial chambers where the First Archons, and the subsequent leaders of Xanadu are buried.

Seven Truths, Secret of the - Little is known about the meaning behind the seven truths.  This largely untranslated portion of the Codex is believed to describe many of the secrets behind the existence of the Xenophage.

Spectral Abyss, The - See Tanin'iver.

Spectral Gateway, The - References to the Spectral Gateway seem to link it to both Tanin'iver and the Macroclysmic War. How it relates to them is not currently known.

Stratagoth, The - Sentient essence of all order and continuity within the universe. The Stratagoth is commonly symbolized as a great spider spinning the fabric of reality into the great web of order.

Stromgrën - The creator of the Obelisk of Yyadrian, he was the last of the First Archons to die.

Tanin'iver - Much of the Codex related to Tanin'iver has yet to be translated.  The few passages that have been deciphered refer to it as the 'Blind Serpent.'  It is believed to have an evil connotation.

Tripartium, The - Common name for the basic forces within the universe; chaos, order and destruction. These three forces are considered to be facets of the Tripartium and are separately named The Chaosynth, The Stratagoth and The Nullstrom.

Valley of Xanadu - See Sacred Valley, The

Void, The - The basic form of the universe before, and after the existence of the great tree, Yggdrasil. This form is analogous to a state of complete and total non-existence.

Wanderers Journals - Over two hundred years old, these journals were uncovered from an obscure Tibetan monastery only five years ago.  The journals were used to log the vast information uncovered during the accidental discovery of the fabled city of Xanadu. This was the initial source of information that began the search for the data found here.

Xanadu - Mythical city that rests in a secret valley somewhere in the Himalayas.

Xenophage, The - Almost nothing is known about this alien interloper into the realm of Yggdrasil. Its corruptive essence is causing great discord between the basic forces of the Tripartium.

Yggdrasil - The fundamental core and essence of the universe, the basic forces of the Tripartium are her eyes, ears and mouth. Yggdrasil is commonly symbolized as a great and ancient tree that spans the reaches of the cosmos.

Ylir - Ancient city only recently uncovered along the banks of the Tigris river.  Originally the sister city to Agaparthea, it later came under the rule of the Sumerian empire before dying out during the 2nd millennium BC.  It is hoped that the data uncovered there will shed more light on the mysteries of Agaparthea.

Yyadrian - One of the First Archons, he was the father and founder of Xanadu.
