Obelisk of Yyadrian

It is on the Obelisk of the Prophet Yyadrian that the genesis and destiny of our people is told. Written during the birth of the civilized world, the First Archons created the obelisk to bequeath the prophecy of the ages onto the peoples of Xanadu. Written in the arcane language, the obelisk teaches us about the forces of the cosmos and what part we play in its never ending drama. It was the First Archons hope that the obelisk would never be lost and when the time of the Macroclysmic War came, we could use its power to defend the forces of life.

At the top of the exalted obelisk lies the history of the First Archons. Through the sanguine mists of the heavens themselves the First Archons were born. Originating in a place beyond our comprehension, they brought about an era of enlightenment and peace never before seen by humankind. They gave us gifts beyond compare; medicines to cure the sick and dying, tools to harness the power of the earth, and then there was Xanadu. The greatest of all gifts, Xanadu was a brilliant city that bejeweled the splendor of our miraculous valley. A place where the face of Gaea herself always smiled, and loved her disciples. In return for these magical gifts we have become the guardians of what is to be. Our geasea, or code of laws, holds the protection of the Manifest Legacy above all else, so that the knowledge may continue to live in the heart and mind of humanity. It is through the understanding of the prophecies that we still hope. For without it the Macroclysmic War means the end for us all...

The First Manifest Legacy: Genesis of the Archons

Obelisk of Yyadrian     Through the gateway of the Infinite Spiders we came, blind and sick and weary. Many of our kind perished in the first few months as we struggled to uncover the purpose of our arrival. The multitude of images and sounds we experienced within the gateway were still fresh in our minds when our preordained destiny became apparent. It was as if the veil of the universe opened for just an instant, and we were able to see the clear meaning and purpose of all things. It was here and now that we understood our unmistakable duty on this earth.

It took many years to find the sacred valley; a place shrouded in obscurity where our disciples could best protect the Manifest Legacy from the brutal hand of the conquerors. This ancient valley, with its rolling hills and grand forests, was beauty personified. From the moment we set eyes on it, we knew we would never leave. It was with the help of the peaceful denizens of this valley that we first began creating the palace that would become Xanadu. We used the few artifacts that remained from our journey through the gateway to create a place beyond compare. Destined to become the cradle of humanity, Xanadu was born.

Our time on this earth has grown short. Already most of the First Archons have passed away. As his dying wish, our elder leader Yyadrian wished that a final gift be given to the peoples of Xanadu. This gift was a grand and majestic obelisk intended to be the centrifugal force behind the evolution of this society. It would guard and protect the valley, veiling its existence from the prying eyes of the outside world. Although given as a gift, the obelisk is equal parts burden; for the price of Xanadu is the preservation of the knowledge contained within its runic text. As a tribute to our now departed chieftain, we named this monument the Obelisk of Yyadrian.

Engraved on the obelisk are the final words of Yyadrian to the citizens of Xanadu; "You, my children, have done a wonderful job in the creation of this glorious city. It is here that your real journey begins; the journey of the soul. Although I cannot join you in body, I will always be with you in spirit. May the great forces in the universe guide and protect you; for you are the hope, the dream, and the guardian of all things living."
